I think I’ve spent more days interviewing than actually working this year. I can’t wait until it’s all over, because I really am sick of walking around in the city in a suit.

So anyway, I talked to a friend this evening and did some catching up since I’ve moved. He asked me questions about my roommate and when I told him what her occupation was, his response was the general response I’ve gotten from men.

Let me backtrack. When I tell my female friends about my roommate and what she does, they simply ask, “Is she nice? Neat? Do you get along?”

But when I tell my guy friends my roommate is a teacher and a dancer, these are the typical responses I get:

Male Friend 1: “Ohhhhh, really? Exactly what kind of dancing?” (sheepish grin)

My brother: “Oooh. Is she hot?”

Male Friend 2: “So she usually comes home with a wad of cash, huh? Sweet."

Male Friend 3: “When’s her next show? I'll bring some of my buddies along with me.” (wink wink)

My brother again: “Oooh. Does she have a lot of hot friends?”

Come on people. It’s creative modern dancing. And yes, I suppose what my guy friends are hinting towards could also be considered creative and modern, but I won’t get into that. The girl is legit, okay? She teaches creative modern dancing to second graders for goodness sake!

But it’s no wonder why my danceforjoy email account which I created back in college gets a lot of attention from random people and always gets bombarded with emails for free porn sites.

Something about the word dance which makes hormones go wild. Movies like Dirty Dancing and Flash come into mind.

But when I think of the word dance, I think of the Sheepman in Murakami's novel.

Dance. Yougottadance. Aslongasthemusicplays. Yougottadance. Don'teventhinkwhy. Starttothink, yourfeetstop. Yougottalimberup. Yougottaloosenwhatyoubolteddown. Yougottauseallyougot. It's amazing what a little dancing can do for your body and your mind. I absolutely love it. Maybe I'll even learn a new move or two from my roommate.
