Colorado Free-mo is an independent group of modelers located in the Denver Metro area of Colorado.
Colorado Free-mo has its beginnings at the GATS show in February of 2003 in Denver.
Several modelers came together at the show to discuss the Free-mo concept
and where they wanted to go with the concept. Out of those discussions
Colorado Free-mo was born.
We realized that the "traditional NMRA" modular style of main
line tracks arranged in a giant oval does not lend itself to prototypical
operations or realistic scenes. Model trains should be surrounded by the
scene, and not be offset to one side, as they make their way from their
point of origin to their final destination.
Once we decided that Free-mo met our requirements with its single track
main line, free-form module design, and point to point operation as well
as its use of DCC for train control, all or our desired requirements were
met.
Colorado Free-mo is open to all modelers who desire to take their modular
railroading to a higher level. We consider ourselves to be a group of
non-aligned modelers. Participation in any other groups or clubs does not
include or preclude membership in Colorado Free-mo. We have no formal
organization; rather we communicate via email or phone to coordinate work
sessions and operating runs, and to exchange ideas for improving our
modules and equipment. There is no group owned equipment, no dues and no
elected or appointed club officers.
