There have been some great American switchblades made over the years, and also many novelty items as well. On the right is a Case leverlock that is a super quality knife. From the tang stamp, this one was made in the 40's. Below it is a Kabar leverlock with jigged bone scales. Kabar used this tang stamp between 1925 and 1930. Next are a pair of Queen Steel switchblades. They were made in two versions, one with a safety and one without. Queen used this tang stamp from 1945 - 1955, but the patent on this knife was taken out in 1947 or 48. These knives did not lock in the open position, but did have a strong backspring. Also pictured are a green large Colonial Shursnap knife, an orange Edgemaster, and a candy striped Hammer Brand. These were made after WWII through the mid 50's. They were priced from 75 cents to $1.25, but then again gas was 20cents a gallon, and a pack of cigarettes not that much more. The feature photo at the bottom is a display machine for Schrade double enders. When the machine is running, the blades look like windshield wipers. Schrade destroyed many of these after 1958. |
