"Time is an unseen thief..."

My favorite Echoing Green t-shirt (EG = The Echoing Green)

There are only a few bands that I can really call "all time favorites." The Echoing Green are one of them. I first heard about them from the liner notes of aleixa's first album Honey Lake, around 1998 or 1997. The first album I was supposed to get was the CD of Aurora 7.2, but instead I got the cassette because the CDs were out of stock. (Took a good year of searching to track down a few copies of the CD -- before my days of internet searching.) I took an immediate liking to the first three tracks, and almost wore out the tape listening to the entire album.

I have only seen them live in concert once: June 22, 1998, which I think was the release date for their self-titled album (which I bought at the concert from EG instead of at a store earlier that day). My friend and I got to talk with Joey Belville, the man who started EG, for about an hour or two. He's one of the finest as far as I'm concerned... and I'm sure many others would agree. He's a very down-to-earth person, not someone who feels too important to talk with some fans about everything from the Doctor Who TV show to our favorite music.

Muscially, The Echoing Green have developed and grown a lot over the years. Do yourself a favor and check them out sometime. I highly recommend "The Evergreen Collection," which you can buy at A Different Drum, the store & record label that the EG now release their material through. Disc 1 is a best-of collection, from 1994-2001; and Disc 2 contains new and old (and some rare) remixes. For a two-CD set, it's very reasonably priced.
