The Rathanna Marching Band was founded in 1981 by the Rathanna Ladies Club as interest in music had been shown in the area following the introduction of music lessons by local dance teacher Josie Ryan. The Band quickly became a medium to promote and teach traditional Irish musicto the youth of the locality under the tuition of Micheal Byrne. The band proved to be very popular with both young and old and by December 1982 thr band had in excess of 25 members. This was no small acheivement for a small community in rural Co. Carlow The band has since progressed into a full functional marching band and preform of many event both local and international.
