Rick Wolcott has been flying sport kites since 1994 after the purchase of a Cutter. His first competition was in late 1995 in Pacific Beach, WA, he say's, "I wanted to improve my skills, and see how other people flew, I knew I was a beginner so I wanted to see how bad of a beginner I was."
After competing for awhile both he and his son Reid decided it was time to take the next step, so along with fellow flier Mary Bos they decided to form Team BumperKites. The team went to the AKA National Championships in 1997 in Wildwood, NJ where they took first in both Experienced Team Precision and Ballet.
