Derek's Bedroom - Before
Derek's bedroom, formerly a craft room, was one of the next projects on the list.  Plans for this room include a one-of-a-kind paint job and floor resurfacing.
When she had the determination, Jon's mom used this room to work on craft projects and house her materials.  After a while, the most frequent visitors to this room were the cats who took advantage of the neglected space.
Occupants of this room also included all of the stuffed animals that Jon had as a kid.  And yes, that is Teddy Ruxpin on the top shelf.  He was Jon's favorite.  :-)
And the process begins....First, by cleaning out the room.  The stuffed animals will remain part of the room.
After years of human neglect and animal attention, this floor needs a little sanding, and fresh coats of stain and polyurethane.
This dresser has been stashed in the closet to free up space in the room, but will soon be relocated to Jon's mom's house.
Why is there a picture of a closed door?  Well, prior to the start of our project, this door would not fully close during the spring, fall, and winter months.  It would only close during the summer, when the wood had expanded.  Upon close review by Jon and I, we realized the reasons why.  The trim on the door jamb was slightly off in alignment.  In addition, the strike plate was also out of alignment - by less than 1/4 inch.  After adjusting both the plate and trim, the door shuts easily and will continue to do so all year round.
