I am a decendent of Ambrose Alchin (1801-1877), a gardener and tree cutter from Staplehurst, Kent, England. He was the first member of the Alchin family to emigrate to Australia. He settled at Jerrawa in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales.
My grandfather was William Ernest Alchin (d.1961). He was a sleeper cutter in Central Western NSW before moving with his family to Surry Hills, Sydney, due to ill health.
