A brilliantly sculpted work which incorporates the sounds of traditional Dakota Flute with the natural world of the Northern Plains. A very powerful and moving recording. Bryan Akipa, a member of the Sisseton Wahpeton Dakota Nation, is a self-taught flutemaker, flute player and woodcarver. In his flutes, Akipa combines the old and new, the traditional and contemporary.

Sounds of the Northern Plains prairie have the power to uplift the human spirit. A gentle breeze blowing through a cottonwood tree, crickets in a summer night's air, a meadowlark's song lost in the distance together with the traditional Dakota flute can be relaxing and soothing. In the old times, it was the music for lovers. The essence of the wind, the melody of a red cedar flute, where it comes from, where it goes, is a mystery.
