Jaden's Horrible Night (cont...)
By Nicole
Ben decided to go investigate while I went into the kitchen to make us some more popcorn. The sound of the popcorn popping drowned out all humanity, so I didn’t even notice Ben going outside to his car to get the pizza he ordered. When the popcorn was done, I went back into the living room, sat down, and began to watch the movie again. An hour had passed and Ben still wasn’t back. Being suspicious, I decided to go investigate. As I walked upstairs I heard strange noises coming from all directions. Trying to be brave, I thought to myself, come on, Jaden, you’re not scared of anything, remember? But all I could see playing in my head was the scene where the guy is hanging from hooks and three people appear. One of them was a creepy guy with nails in his head.

I slowly crept up the stair only to stop because I heard my name being called. I gave myself whiplash as I swiftly turned around and saw nothing. I began to cry and bite my nails. I went a little further. I finally reached the top of the stairs. I saw a dark shadowy figure move its way into my mom and dad’s room, so I decided to follow the figure into the room. As I stepped into the room, I was so scared I began to bite my nails as I swallowed a lump of fear in my throat.

“Hello,” I said shakily. “Is anyone there?” I got no reply. I felt so scared that I was being watched. Suddenly the phone rang. Being so frightened, I screamed a shattering scream. I said to myself, Jaden get a hold of yourself. It is just the phone.  I walked over to the bed and picked up the phone.

  “Hello,” I said, shaking.

“Sweetheart, is everything ok?” replied Mom.

“Oh, Mom, it’s just you,” I said, relieved.

“Yeah, sweetie, is something wrong?” she said, sounding really confused.

“No, I’m all right,” I said, swallowing once more.

“Ok, well we are running a little late. We will be home in an hour, ” she retorted.

“Ok, love you Mom,” I said calmly.

  “Love you too, honey.”

I hung up the phone thinking to myself, why didn’t I tell Mom I was scared? I guess because she would think I wasn’t able to stay by myself anymore, as if I was a little kid. I began to walk out of the room. I reached the doorway, and the phone rang again. Once again I screamed and jumped ten feet in the air. I ran over to the bed and answered it. No one was there. All I could hear was a sound like someone was breathing. Trying to be brave and courageous, I told myself, Jaden, there is probably something wrong with the signal or something. Standing there, I listened as it began to get harder and heavier. I hung up the phone so fast that it felt like someone or something had touched me. Being so scared, I jumped up and ran into the bathroom, screaming at the top of my lungs. Even China could have heard me screaming. As I made into the room, I locked the door. While sitting in the dark, I looked in the mirror and saw Ben’s reflection.

“Ben, is that you?” I said, turning around to see nothing. I was so frightened I crawled into the tub, put a towel over my face, and sat there until I got enough courage to go downstairs. It seemed to be much safer there. As I was walking down the stairs, I heard something making a racket in the kitchen, so I decided to research the sound. I walked in, slithering like a snail. I began to get reflections of the same scene from the movie as before. Slowly and quietly I said, “Hello, is anyone there?” Just then, someone tapped me on my shoulder. I rotated around, screaming. To my delight I turned and saw my parents.

“I am so glad to see you,” I said with relief as I hugged them both real tight.

“Honey, what is wrong?” my mom said, grabbing my face with tears in her eyes.
