1. Community Service:
Request a Community Service Letter
May 2004: Club members  and fellow Coral Reef homerooms collected snacks and toiletries for homeless teens through STAND UP for Kids. We filled over ten boxes with supplies.
March 2004: Members attended the Multiple Sclerosis Walk in Coral Gables, FL. They fundraised for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, contributing to the search for a cure and for physical therapy.
December 2003: Members donated toys to children less fortunate at the Wynwood De Hostos Center.
November 2003: Member distributed Thanksgiving dinner at the Wynwood Center for the Elderly.
November 2003: SHS collected over $142 for Trick or Treat for UNICEF!! Your collections will immunize chidren against polio for life, provide clean drinking water, buy school supplies and prevent iodine deficiency!!!
Last year (02-03) SHS completed over 350 hours of community service.
SHS hosted a collections drive for Camillus House in April 2003. We collected over $250 worth of personal hygiene items for the homeless.
SHS donated Thanksgiving Dinner to the elderly at the Wynwood de Hostos center in North Miami. We also organized a joint domino competition for several Nursing Homes in Miami-Dade County.
SHS members served as mentors to foster children in the Catholic Group Homes throughout the 2002-2003 school year. Members helped the children in grammar and reading homework, Spanish, sports, and art.
SHS donated over fifty educational toys to children at the Wynwood de Hostos Recreation center. For many, it was the only toy they received.
Members participated in registration of the March of Dimes in February 2003.
2. Awards
Paola Valderde and Andrea Hernandez received First Place for their Creative Writing entries at the Dade County Youth Fair.
Susana  Bejar, Romina Ruiz and Monica Bowen received the Mas Family Scholarship from the Cuban American National Foundation, valued at $8,000.
Christian Barjum and Monica Bowen received the Gates Millenium Scholarship, valued at over $12,000.
Carolina Paez had her poem published in the  Winter 2003 issue of the National Magazine, Albricias. She received a $35 cash prize. You can read her work here.
Coral Reef received 3rd Place in Miami-Dade County for the Miniconcurso, and 1st Place in the Drama Category. Read about the 2003 participants here.

Monica Bowen recevied the 2003 Junior Travel Award from the National Sponsors of the Spanish Honor Society, the AATSP (American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese). Instead of the trip she received a $1500 scholarship. Read the winning piece here.
Lucia Obregon received a $12,000 scholarship from the Bill Gates Millenium Foundation.
Romina Ruiz, Ariadna del Rio, Magaly Castro, Christian Barjum, Susy Bejar, and Carolina Paez all contributed to the first Volume of the Spanish Honor Society's Bilingual Literary Journal. You can view a copy of it in room 105.
Ariadna del Rio and Angela Sanchez had their poems published in Albricias. They each received $35.
