There are mangroves at St Kilda, and the Government has built a fantastic interpretive centre and a board walk to take yourself on a self-guided tour of the mangrove swamp and it's environment. Mangroves need to be flooded by seawater every day for them to survive, so they only live between the high and low watermarks. We didn't realise that the tide was coming in, and found ourselves at the furthest point out from dry land with the boardwalk getting quickly covered by the incoming tide, a fun little adventure. We all ended up with wet shoes. If we'd thought about it a little more we would have taken them off and done the rest of the walk barefoot at a more liesurely pace!

The mangrove swamp is a beautiful and interesting place, and the walk was great fun.
