Set for Magic: the Gathering

Welcome to the Revenge set home page! Revenge is the third and last set in the Verdict Block, and features 165 all-new cards, plus new mechanics that enhance the themes of the block. For the final chapter, the Bulwarks will give you access to both small and big effects; you'll have cards give you benefits for a Lifetime; and you will even revisit one of the most popular counter-types ever.

Revenge has been designed for playing with Apprentice (download the full patch on the bottom of this page). Please give it a try. If you want someone to play against, drop me a line at ricklongo@mail.com.

New Mechanics

Materialize - The Materialize mechanic interacts very well with counter-based cards. "Materialize X" reads "If you control a basic land that produces mana of this card's color, you may remove X counters, divided as you choose, from permanents you control rather than pay this card's mana cost". As you will see, this is a quite powerful mechanic for tournament play.

Poison counters - What better way to end a counter-based block than to bring back an old, popular, and underused counter type? Unlike most types of counter, Poison counters are given to players. Events that give poison counters to players include combat damage, like the old poison cards, but there are also new ways to poison an opponent. A player with ten or more poison counters loses the game.

Expanded Mechanics / Themes

Revenge features the mechanic Alternate, which originally debuted on Verdict. It also expands on the Unchain mechanic.

Tweaks on Unchain
- For Revenge, there are new waays to unchain a card, and at new times. Cards like Garen Stalker become unchained whenever a special event happens, and, like all unchain cards, remain so until the beginning of your next upkeep.

Also, there's a cycle known as the Pledgers, which will give you great benefits along with the unchain mechanic - but a drawback as well. Check out Piety Pledger, for example.
