MANAGUA - A Day In The Life
In response to a huge demand for insight into our daily life, we took time one afternoon to take snapshots of images we see on a daily basis.  Enjoy!
It's virtually impossible to travel around town without encountering people selling goods in the street, washing car windows, or simply begging (above).
An Earthquake in 1972 destroyed Managua's downtown, including the cathedral (shown below). As a result, the city has grown outward, not upward.  There are only a few tall buildings in Managua's skyline.
The old cathedral (above) was destroyed by the earthquake and later replaced with a modern, somewhat bizarre-looking cathedral (right).
The area by Lake Managua is scenic and located near the National Congress (above).  The lake is quite large and beautiful from afar but is terribly polluted due to unregulated industry.  High in mercury, the lake yields no fish that is safe to eat.
Christina in front of her office (left), images of the socialist revolutionary Sandino are seen throughout the country (right and below), many people still rely on horses for transportation (below left).
