...Auckland and the Coromandel Penninsula...

My friend Dion (he lives in Auckland) was kind enough to show me around Coromandel Penninsula. We drove through Coromandel and over to the east coast beaches where Kiwis spend much of their holidays with family and friends. We hiked along the coast down to Cathedral cove.

The shape of this cave is why it is called Cathedral... And this is the view of the beach that greets you on the other side.

This is a magnificent formation- shaped by a combination of sea spray crystalizing and waves carving.

Our final destination was Hot Water Beach. Boiling hot water bubbles out of the sand at low tide. Everyone gathers and digs holes for the water to pool up and presto! You've got a little hot tub! Throughout my trip I ran into commercials on TV and billboards promoting the idea that eating red meat makes you young and healthy. Quite the opposite of the norm in California... watch out vegetarians. ;)
