Great ideas!
Swimming pools- not just for kids! Some dogs love getting wet and what better way than to run in and out of a small plastic pool. Just remember to keep clean water in it.
"Turtle" Sand Boxes- Does Scruffy like to bury things or dig? Bury a bone or chew toy in there and let Scruffy dig it out. This is also a good place for Scruffy to dig instead of the yard!
Wood Chips, Straw or Hay- Place on the dirt to keep the mud down especially during the rain and snowy seasons. Less "muddy paws" & tracks coming inside.
Tie Wire- Roll of wire to fix fences that come unhooked easily. You can also call your fence company to put a heavy duty metal clip on there.
Chicken Wire- Not just for chickens! Fido won't stop digging under the fence? Try getting chicken wire and placing it on the bottom of the fence extending it out a bit over the grass part. Use wooden stakes sporadically to hold it down. Most pets don't like the chicken wire and stakes and therefore won't dig there.
In Ground Stakes- Bad: Silver cork screw type stakes are not recommended to hold Fido while outside. Good: The Green color stake with the dome top and metal fins that go into the ground are recommended for the smaller dogs.
The Orange color ones with the retractable fins and chain is recommended for the larger dogs.
Teathers (Ti Outs)- Good: Use the chain with CLOSED links or cable ties. Bad: NEVER use rope or nylon.
Kennels and Houses-Use straw in the kennels or dog houses outside as insulation for your pets.
Water-Use metal buckets or tubs with handles to hook to the fence to keep your dog(s) from spilling the water. A heater is available at your local hardware or farm store to put in them during the winter time. |
