BRATTLEBORO -- James John “Jimmie” Coughlin, 78, of Mountain Home Park in West Brattleboro died Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Coughlin was born on Dec. 13, 1927, the son of the late John Leo Coughlin and Louise Robbins (Gonyer) Coughlin.
He is survived by a daughter, Lisa Ann Lind, and a grandson, Robert James Lind of Worcester, Mass.; three brothers, Frank Gonyer of Saxtons River, Everett Gonyer of Troy and Harry Gonyer of Brattleboro; five sisters, Beverly C. Barnes of Florida, Joan C. Shippee of Brattleboro, Betty C. Brown of Piermont, N.H., Louise Stebbins of Newfane and Norma Green of Colonie, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Coughlin was predeceased by three brothers, John H. Coughlin, Edward T. Coughlin and Floyd W. Gonyer; and two sisters, Grace Smith and Dorothy Cleveland.
He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 5 in Brattleboro.
He served during World War II with the U.S. Navy. He received several medals. He also served with the Army National Guard of Vermont, serving a tour in Germany with the 172nd Infantry, where he received the Victory Medal.
He loved his family and was a devoted friend.
A memorial service will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family.
