DO
YOU WANT TRUE SUCCESS?
Joshua 10:29-43
Based on this passage, true success has four characteristics:
- It is grace-oriented. The
Israelites made a lot of mistakes (e.g. the defeat at Ai
and the booboo with the Gibeonites), but God gave them success
nevertheless! Isn't that encouraging? You can be failure
as far as the world is concerned, but God can still give
you success!
- It is relationship-oriented.
Joshua succeeded together with the rest of the Israelites.
He was not a lone ranger! God's kind of success does not
end up with broken relationships!
- It is spiritually-oriented.
Joshua saw to it that he obeyed God's word faithfully. That's
why he and Israel succeeded. Success in God's eyes cannot
be separated from Christian obedience.
- It is future-oriented. Even
though Joshua captured those various nations, there was
still work to do. Even though we succeed here on earth,
it still does not compare with the true success that is
awaiting us in Christ's return. We long to hear God say,
"Well done, my good and faithful servant!"
