Patrick McLaughlin | |||||||||||||||||||||||
Patrick McLaughlin enlisted into the Canadian Army on April 17,1941 and served in the Royal Canadian Artillery until 1942. In May 1942, McLaughlin requested to be transfered to the Royal Regiment of Canada Infantry and was sent overseas to Britain. He had military training in England and commando training in Scotland.
McLaughlin landed on the Normandy invasion beaches at St.Aubun-sur-Mer on June 8, 1944 (D-Day plus 2) and fought through France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. On October 13, 1944, McLaughlin was seriously wounded in the Netherlands and spent the rest of the war in the hospital. In March 1945, he returned to Canada but had to stay in a hospital for another six months. McLaughlin was honorably discharged on September 5,1945. |
