13th August 2001: saw the start of the 2nd Woodturning Cruise, On the Norwegian School Ship , the m.s.GANN. Organized by Odd-Eric Thjomoe and Mette Fjermstad. and assisted by Kirsti Orke The Cruise started from Stavanger in the South and went as far North as Tromso (in the Artic circle) and back down to Stavanger, ending on the 24th of August.
On board were some of the elite from the woodturning world,  From America: England : Norway : Canada and New Zealand as well as a Pyrography Specialist, Carvers and Wood Workers. the "Passengers" came from as far a-field as  England, Wales,Norway,Sweden, Holland, Canada, and the U.S.A.
The List of demonstrators was quite impressive,
Allan Batty : Stuart Mortimer: Jimmy Clews,( Woodturners) Bob Neill (Pyrography) all from the U.K
Dale Nish, a Master Woodturner from the U.S.A. and Arthur Aveling with his King Arthur tools,
Asmund Vinges: Petter Herud (Woodturners) Rolf Taraldset (Wood Carver) Kjell Musland (Wood Carver and Music man) Rolf Langnes (Dewalt) and Tor Nyhus ( Demonstrating  the Lancelot tools)and Terje (doing his thing on the fret saw)All from Norway,
Tim Clay from Canada (demonstrating his Oneway equipment)
Elizabeth and David Powell from the U.S.A. with their (DMT Diamond Sharpening Stones)
and last but not least:
Harry Memlink from New Zealand with (His Exocet range of tools) and a bag full of Mouth Organs.
The Cruise started in Stavanger, then on to Floro, Maloy, Molde,Kristiansund, Namsos, Bodo, and finally Tromso, then the trip south began and first stop was the TrollFjorden, a very narrow fjord, you can almost touch the mountain sides as you enter. then on to Svolvaer, Mosjoen, Trondheim,Molde, Alesund, Bergan and finally back to Stavanger, where we had to bid farwell to the many friends that were made,
not only among the Passengers, but the Demonstrators and the Crew as well, 
and the verdict of all was that
It was a voyage NOT to be forgotten,
It is hard to put into words, you must experience it first hand, the Ship, the Atmosphere the Scenery,
the Friendships that developed, the Learning  and the Places visited. Norway.
Who knows maybe we will meet on the next
Woodturning Cruise that Odd-Eric and Mette organize.
