Arnold  Sando and Alice Dowdy were married in 1918 on his return from World War I. They moved to the Riverland region of South Australia in 1920 as part of a soldier settlers scheme and established a fruit property at Monash.

Descendents of Arnold and Alice still live in the Riverland over eighty years later.
