| "...as I look back on my childhood, some of my most happy times were spent with my grandfather, with whom my mother and I lived, when we used to go nutting in the woods and out in the clearing to blow stumps and burn the brush heaps. (brush sheaps I used to call them) I also always looked forward to the almost every other Saturday in the winter time when Mother and I would go to "Grandmas" as I always expressed it, where lived my two grandparents and my uncle. These were always times of corn-popping, nut cracking and taffy making...." - "Letters To My Son" by Stella Leech to William Horace Melton May 11, 1916 |
