| RAMMSTEIN - ROSENROT (Rose-Red) Reviewed by Prodigal |

| Just a year after the great Reise,Reise, the German Industrial Metal crew are back with another mighty assault on our ear drums. These tracks were written at the same time as R.R, but didn't fit into that albums theme - hence this quick release......and no, it isn't R.R volume 2! 1. Benzin (Petrol) Considering Rammstein's fondness for fire at their live shows, not a surprising start to the album....! A slow brooding start, suddenly bursts into life with some pummeling drums and a MIGHTY riff that shakes the floor. Typical Rammstein! Interesting lyrics as you would expect: " I don't need a friend, Nor cocaine. I need neither a doctor nor medicine. I don't need a woman, just Vaseline" 'nuff said 9/10 2. Mann gegen Mann (Man Against Man) As usual Rammstein are not afraid to come up with a bit controversy - last time it was Cannibalism, this time it is homosexuality between men...... I won't delve into the lyrics, just to say that musically, this is a really powerful track, with a mighty chorus. One of the many highlights of this album. 10/10 3. Rosenrot (Rose-Red) A song to some extent based on The Brothers Grimm fairy tale....a cool chorus with some lovely lyrics "A girl saw a little rose, It bloomed there in bright heights. She asked her sweetheart if he could fetch it for her" - and a powerful performance by Till Linderman on vocals make for yet another stunning track....10/10 4. Spring (Jump) A song about suicide - and no, it's not depressing at all! Some really excellent guitar solos on this track, with some powerful lyrics make for a stunning track. "Jump, Redeem yourself. Jump, Don't disappoint me, Jump for me. Jump - Don't disappoint me" 9/10 5. Wo Bist Du (Where Are You) My Favourite track on the album......the opening lines "I love you. I love you not. I love you no more. I love you no more or less than you, than you loved me when you still loved me" sung with passion hooked me straight away. A chorus & melody to die for and wonderful all round playing make this the stand out track for me. 11/10 6. Stirb Nicht Vor Mir (Don't Die Before I Do) Now, this is interesting......Sharleen Spiteri (Texas) on a Rammstein Album. That's like Lemmy appearing in Westlife!! You wouldn't think there is a chance in hell that this would work, but amazingly it does. Sharleen's Engish vocals mix perfectly with the German vocals from Till - it's not a heavy track by any means - but all credit to Rammstein for trying something different. 7/10 7. Zerstoren (Destroy) Never has the title of a track summed up the music better than this. This track simply destroys everything in it's path - one of the heaviest tracks they have ever done in my opinion....blistering solo's screaming vocals and strong lyrics "Pulling the head off a doll, Hurting, tearing, corroding Destroying. But only if it doesn't belong to me....I must destroy" sums it up perfectly..... Cool & unexpected ending to the track also......10/10 8. Hilf Mir (Help Me) Another wonderfully heavy and powerful track, played at a fairly slow pace - giving a Black Sabbath like feel to the music. Strong lyrics again," I have been totally burned, Everything is burned completely. From the ashes, all alone, I climb up to the sunshine. The fire loves me The fire loves me not. Help me" with a very powerful chorus all combine to make a truly Neighbour annoying track that will be heaven to all true metalheads! 10/10 9. Te Quiero Puta! (I Love You Whore!) Before you ask, this isn't in German! This is Spanish, and is a really upbeat and cool sounding track, mixing trumpet's, heavy guitars with some interesting lyrics, make for another unusal track that works big time. No need to say what the song is about...........*cough* 8/10 10. Feuer & Wasser (Fire & Water) Fire again! A very gentle 2 minutes start of this track, but don't be decieved, this is another typically heavy and powerful track. What makes this outstanding is the lovely guitar solos and stunning vocals from Till - who is vastly underated in the metal community I feel. 9/10 11. Ein Lied (A Song) As usual withh Rammstein, thay always end on a gentle track & this is no exception. Very nice and simple with some nice bass & acoustic guitars. "We were born for music. We are the servants of your ears. Whenever you're sad - We play for you " Long may they continue! 8/10 Summary: Simply stunning, easily the most varied and interesting album they have done. The skill of this band is there for all to see. It's such a shame they won't be touring with this, but it is understandable given the exhausting Reise, Reise tour earlier this year. If you like metal, buy this at all costs...... Prodigals star rating: 10/10 |
