JOEL " WILSON" CHURCH
Joel "Wilson" Church was the son of George and Elizabeth "Derryberry" Church. He was my husbands grandfather He was born in Buchanan County Virginia in  about 1877. He married Margaret Mullins in about 1892. They had six children. Wilson was a Primitive Baptist preacher, and according to the book. "A Historical Bicenntial Of Buchanan County", Wilson was also a faith healer. He like his mother ,Elizabeth Church, practiced Faith Healing in and around Buchanan County. They also could heal burns and stop bleeding.. This type of healing was practiced  down through the generations as far as I can tell. From the stories that I have heard about Wilson, he wasnt one to stay home. He was gone a lot and never stayed much with his family. No One knows why, by 1920, Wilson and Margaret had separated. I dont know if they divorced or just never lived together again. In the 1920 McDowell County Census, Wilson is not living in the household with Margaret. Wilson at some point met a woman named Lovis Blankenship, some say they married in about 1925. Wilson died in Welch WVa. April, 22, 1947 at the age of 79.. He was living with a Witten Payne, at Sandy Huff, in McDowell County.  Margaret  lived the rest of her life in McDowell County WVa. and she never married again. She died in 1974 at about 97 years old.  Until we found this obituary, no one in the family knew that Wilson had a daughter named Edith. She is probably the daughter of Wilson and Lovis. If anyone can add to this info.,please email me. Below is a copy of Wilson's obituary and a picture of Wilson & Lovis.
