A box for eyepieces

First my precious eyepieces were maintained in the cardboard boxes in which they were delivered and these boxes were more or less loosly maintainend in standart aluminium case. Sadly packing and unpacking the eyepieces from their cardboard boxes during night is quite time consuming especially if you loose the black secure caps... In addition the empty boxes of the eypieces created always a bit of a mess in my eyepiece box during the observing session. Below you can see my solution for this. I made a wooden box out of 6mm baltic birch plywood, which fits snuggly in the eyepiece box. The holes were made with a adjustable hole saw. The eypieces are held within pieces of rainpipe of different diameters, according to the thickness of my eypieces. For me an outside Diameter of 70mm was sufficient. If you are the proud owner of the 31mm Nagler Type you should consider one hole for a 100mm piece of rainpip. The bottom of the wooden box is closed, so I can lift out the whole assembly if necessary, but normaly the wooden box rests allways in the aluminium case. The hight of the box is so defined that while closing the case the top cover fits exacly tight to the topside of the wooden box, so that no dust or dirt can reach the eyepieces.
Inside the rainpipe housing, the eypieces are resting on plastic foam. To compensate different lenghts this foam pieces are cut to a different length. The lenghts is so measured that after opening the eyepiece case the ecepieces are lifted up by about 1 inch from the expanding foam, so I can easily take them.
After an observing night I just have to plop back my eyepieces into their housing and close the box. No need to fumble around with cardboard boxes or eyepiece secure caps.
As you can see on the picture, if heating is necessary due to heavy moisture it is done with one or two simple packs of hand warmers. The left side of my case provides enough space for the rest of my (visual) oberserving equipment.
