| Jewel Cluster Tech Levels
Power: Everything in the Jewel Cluster is powered by Power Cells, these are non-polluting, can be made in any size, and do not explode (if damaged they just become inert). The bigger the cell, the more power it generates, for a period of up to 25 years before needing replacement. This unlimited free energy has been one of the factors which has allowed such a golden age to occur. Weapons and Armour: (Note, Weapons and Armour are extremely controlled in the Jewel Cluster, only police, military and specially licensed people are allowed to carry weapons. Capture with unlicensed weapons will result in heavy fines or imprisonment.) Personal Weapons: (High End) Man-Portable Particle Beam Weaponry, Vibroblades. (Low End) Old Fashioned Pistols, Machines Guns and Rifles. Personal Armour: Polycarbonate Plate Vehicle: Grav-tanks with Force Field Generators Computers: “Smart” Computers, No AI’s (Sentient Computers, this would be considered slavery.) Cluster-Wide Internet, access is via voice/keypads and holographic displays. (No direct interfacing or VR.) Communications: Instant, omnipresent wireless networking is available via a tachyon transmitter anywhere in the cluster. This is FTL, and goes through almost anything. Sensory Technology: At range, sensors can distinguish individual life-forms easily if they have their patterns on file. Only force field or other GM technology can be used to stop high-grade sensors, but this level of sensory equipment is expensive and limited to government use. Teleportation Technology: Only at a Starship scale, the power requirements and forces involved are too great for human scale teleportation. Matter Manipulation: None. Gravity Manipulation: Small localized gravity manipulation devices are common and cheap, but only allow for moving small weights and getting things a few meters of the ground. Larger scale fields used for full “flight” are power consumptive and not man-portable under normal circumstances. “Force Field” technology is an offshoot of GM technology. Nanotech: Nanotech is generally not used except for some industrial purposes, such as making special materials. Biotech: Full regeneration and Organ/Limb re-growth is possible but takes a long period of time. Hyper-Antibiotics can cure most disease, but not all. Diseases like Cancer are still a leading cause of death. Transportation: On Land: Maglev Trains, Grav-Bikes, Grav-Trucks, Grav-Cars Air Travel: Hypersonic Jet Liners Water Travel: Ships, Hovercraft Space Travel: Interstellar Spacecraft, FTL Jump Drives Starship Travel in the Jewel Cluster The FTL Jump Drive used for Interstellar Flight in the Jewel Cluster allows for a ship to instantaneously jump from one point to another in an instant regardless of distance, virtual teleportation. It does, however, have several limitations: • It has enormous power requirements for each jump. • The bigger the ship, the more power required for each jump. • It’s accuracy is affected by ship size and gravity fields. The bigger the ship, and/or the bigger the gravity field at both ends the more inaccurate the jump will be. So basically, small ships can jump with more accuracy and closer to planets, whereas big ships have to go far out, and plan jumps carefully to make sure they don’t end up in the middle of something. The end result of this is that all military and government spacecraft are small, not much bigger than a small 20th century jetliner. Cargo, Transport, Construction and Cruise Ships, on the other hand, are massive. As a rule, there are no “warships”, just small military spacecraft akin to fightercraft and their motherships, both being jump-capable. All spacecraft possess force field technology for defense and navigational purposes, and small particle beam cannons for dealing with space debris. Military ships will use larger particle beam cannons as weapons in case of conflict. |
