457th Tactical Fighter Squadron
"Spads"
Carswell Air Force Base, Fort Worth, Texas, 1980-1987

457th Tactical Fighter Squadron activated on 8 July 1972. Reporting directly to the 301st Tactical Fighter Wing ,with which it was co-located at Carswell AFB, Texas. The 457th TFS was initially equipped with the F-105D Thunderchief. The enlarged dorsal fairing of its aircraft resulting in the squadron being assigned the tailcode "TH", for "Texas Humpbacks". The 457th TFS converted to Pave Phantom F-4Ds in 1980. The squadron started to re-equip with the F-4E during 1987.
