POLONARUWA

Our next stop is Polonaruwa, the island medieval capital between the 11th and 13th century.


.You will see here a lot of ruins but its very impressive. This is the VATADAGE or the temple of the Tooth. The Buddha statue is is framed by three solid doorways

.At the front of this picture -at the entrance-you will see a big stone in the shape of a half circle, it's called a MOONSTONE with beautiful carvings on it!



The GAL VIHARA = Cave of the Spirits of Knowledge; is regarded as one of the foremost attractios of Sri Lanka. Here you can see a 14m recumbent Buddha
The grain of the rock is clearly visible.Near the head is the 7m standing figure who is thought to be Buddha himself.
