The True Beginning

After you have beaten the Poochyena, Professor Birch will bring you back to his lab in Littleroot Town. Here he will thank you and let you keep the Pokemon forsaving him. He will tell you that his daughter/son is currently on route 103. He will ask you to go there. Now it's time to continue and head for the next town. Return to route 101 (Where you got your first poikemon). Continue up following the path, and along the way you will face numerous pokemon in the grassy areas (you may fight them to increase your pokemon's level) but you can't catch them... yet.

Oldale Town Not much to see here. As usual, there is a Pokemon Center to heal your Pokemon and also a Pokemart. Buy some potions and leave for the next route. As usual, Nurse Joy is still in every Pokemon Center. Now the Pokemon Center has it's own escalator. I love technology, don't you? On the second level of the Pokemon Center, you'll be able to find three booths - One for trading, one for one on one battle, and one two on two battle. Head North, and after walking for a while, you will find your rival. Be prepared for your first battle. You should have levelled up your Pokemon during the journey so far. The Pokemon he choose will be a starter Pokemon that has a type advantages over your Pokemon. Your rival's Pokemon will be at level 5. It shouldn't be hard to beat him/her if you level up enough. If your rival is a boy, his name would be Brendan, if she's a girl, her name would be May. She/He's facing the trees (probably peeing), but talk to them to battle.

Once you beat Him/Her go back to the town, heal up if you need to, buy some stuff in the shop, but you'll need to talk to May (again) at the south end of town. She'll tell you to follow her back to her back home (wow!) so do so, and go and meet her dad... Professor Birch.. he'll be in his lab. He'll give you 5 pokeballs and a pokedex. Head back up north, but your mother will stop you and tell you how proud she is and blah blah... but most important she'll give you running shoes... these are a great addition that enable you to run when you hold down the B button. Continue north capture pokemon and "fool around" up to Oldale Town, then go West

Now you're on Route 102... continue along catching/fighting wild pokemon, and beating trainers for money. At one point you'll come across 2 berry trees... These are important, whenever you come across these, go up to them and pick them, they'll come in use later. Keep heading West. You'll come to Petalburg city.
