the BINGHAM BEACON

The BINGHAM BEACON is a school magazine directly from the

heart of Ethiopia, and the former "School for Missionaries'

Children."

The school was begun in 1945, and the BEACON as a small

magazine from the hectograph. Since then it has taken a

few faltering steps forward until this year we have tried

to make it into a "yearbook".

We trust that the following pages and pictures of life

at Bingham Academy, as the school is now called, will be

a blessing to each one who reads therein.

......and BINGHAM ACADEMY

In our school we have children from several other

Evangelical Missions, other than the S.I.M., and we have

also students from four different countries in or near

East Africa. Somalia, Aden, and Sudan are all represented

as are numersous stations in Ethiopia.

The student body of NINETY-THREE is made up of folk who

have been born in "Orient or Oregon", "Ethiopia or

England", "California or Canada".

Some of our former students are in the homelands

preparing for a life of service for the Master. We send

them our fondest greetings in the Name of Jesus. Phil 2:11

BINGHAM Academy is named after Dr. Roland V. Bingham who

with Mr. Gowans and Mr. T. Kent were the original

pioneer missionaries of the present SUDAN INTERIOR MISSION.

Kent Academy in Nigeria, and GOWANS Home in Collingwood,

Ontario, are named after the other two men.

How are the L.A.C. Meetings carried on?

The entire student body is divided up into four groups,

namely, CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS, CRUSADERS, GIDEONS, and

LOYALISTS, with a group leader for each one, elected

entirely by the children themselves, who elect by secret

ballot all members of the Executive. Uner the supervision

of four staff members who act as Counsellors to

the groups, the children take complete charge of the

meetings on Sunday afternoon, each group taking charge

of one meeting every five weeks. The fifth meeting is

usually a Missionary one when a special speaker comes

to speak or some other special programme is planned

entirely by the members of the executive.

This school year we have been receiving much blessing

in our weekly meetings as we have been studying the

PILGRIM'S PROGRESS by means of Flannelgraph and

Dramatization. We have been delighted to have with us

from week to week numbers of parents and friends who have

enjoyed with us the blessings that have been ours.

We welcome all who are able to be with us from time to time.
