Now that I've covered most of the basics Ill start up on explaining some simple strategies and then move up to more complex strategies. Before you chose cards you should decide on the kind of deck you want. Agressive, Control, Burn,  and many others. Agressive means you don't worry as much about what your opponent is doing more more focussing on overunning your opponent with creatures, and/or overpowering them with power cards. Control focusses on keeping outcomes in the game to your advantage by drawing cards, destroying lands, countering spells, ect. Burn is many small spells that deal damage such as shock. 1 red deal 2 damage to target creature or player. In this deck you do not want to use burn on your opponent ,but on their creatures and keep your opponent at bay until you get enough mana to cast a bomb card such as a fireball that that could deal 20 direct damage or a large creature that will completely overun your opponent. Now I've given you some deck types maby you can even think of some of your own.
card choice: Card choice is probobly the hardest part to making a deck. there are a few ways to determine what cards should go in your deck. The first way to do it and the way every player that makes a deck uses is by making a base. Yuor deck needs 60 total cards atleast and atleast 20 of them should be land cards. That leaves 40 cards open for your deck to use. Now you  want to pick a deck type and gather all known cards that you think could possibly go into your deck. then pick 40 of those cards that you think would best go in your deck. play with that deck atleast 4 times and try to pinpiont any weakness such as too little creatures, too high costing cards, not enough late game cards, nothing to finally finish off your opponent, ect. to fix this switch cards that are the problen. Example: You have no early game creatures and your opponent is getting a strong early game advantage. Switch in some 1 mana cards for some high mana cards. That is the simplest of answers, but another way to improve your deck is by comparing cards. You do this by taking the two cards that you are not sure about and every game you draw 6 cards , and as the 7th card put the one of the cards in that hand. Do this for a few games; then try using the other card, drawing 6, and using that card as the 7th instead. this takes a while and still may not completely tell you which card is better. Probobly the only way to truly know what cards should go in your deck is experience. The more you play the better you get. Use common sense in chosing your cards. Like if you have the choice between a 2/2 for 2 mana or a 2/3 for 2 mana chose the 2/3! Its common sense.
