Province Day 2002
Iota A province day was hosted by the Eta Tau chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota located at Shepherd College. The day started out by meeting several SAI's from the other chapters in Iota A province. Sisters from Gamma Gamma, Delta Nu, Winchester Alumnae, Salisbury Alumnae, and Washington D.C. alumnae chapters were in attendance. Deb Volker, Iota A province officer, could not attend due to her job in the Air Force so Mary K. Traver took her place announcing the province awards. Province Alumnae Chapter Achievement Award went to the Winchester Alumnae. Province and National College Chapter Achievement award went to Eta Tau of Shepherd College.
Leslie Nelson, National V.P. of Ritual and Fraternity Education, was the guest speaker of the day. Leslie and her husband traveled all the way from Indiana to spend the day with us. She spoke of the ritual ceremonies and history of SAI. The rest of the day consisted of a picnic lunch, provided by the brothers of the Xi Epsilon chapter of Phi Mu Alpha, and lots of crafts. Sisters also gathered ideas for the province flag and scrapbook. The day ended with a musicale showcasing many wonderful performances. The day was very fun and eventful.

Fundraising Report
We had a successful semester for the fundraising committee!!! The biggest fundraiser was the Valentine Candy grams. We sold over 200! We also had an egg raffle with prizes up to $10. Currently people are voting (by money donations) which faculty member they would like to throw a pie at. The pie throwing will take place at the annual end of the year 1:10 picnic. Thanks to everyone!

Congratulations!  The sisters of the Eta Tau chapter have taken the semester's songs seriously and have successfully learned an unheard of FIVE PART CHORALE!  Horray! They performed it for Province day to the delight of all in attendance. Way to go sisters, keep it up.

Valerie Rice is a political science major with a communications minor here at Shepherd College. She will be graduating spring of 2002. Val pledged SAI in the fall of 1996. Val's favorite SAI memory was her initiation and the letters she received at Denny's, "I was never so proud because I worked so hard that semester."
Val's advice to SAI:
"Enjoy the moments because these moments are few. You will meet the friends who will be there when you graduate, they will throw you showers when you get married and won't mind when you call them late at night when life has you stressed. They are friends forever, sisters always. Enjoy the moment."
We love you Val and wish you the best of luck in the future.
Letter from the "New" President
Next year will be an exciting one. 2003 will be the year of our centennial celebration and we look forward to heading to Michigan for the convention. Eta Tau's 12th year promises to be full of fundraising to plan for this event. Also in store is a renewed commitment to sisterhood as an outlet from the hectic college schedules. Next year's executive board promises to be one of the strongest, and our chapter as a whole has experienced a wonderful growth that we hope will continue. Have a wonderful summer.
