Welcome to the Basic Information page. Otherwise known on my site as the Cliff Notes Sailor Moon. One of the reasons I've decided to NOT make Profile pages, introductions to the series, and summary guides is because of the very fact that most websites (usually far larger ones than my little space provides) offer such information and usually at a more detailed scale. Therefore, I offer tidbits of information about each Sailor, a few pictures, and a brief detail of important events through the series.

Series Summary

      Wimpy and a bit of a crybaby aren't exactly the best makings for a superheroine, but that's what teenager Tsukino Usagi is. When not transformed into the powerful Sailor Moon, Usagi is just not the sort of person you'd imagine that would save the world. But she does, in the series, " Sailor Moon " and it's many incarnations, beginning with the manga (comic book) and most recently with the live action version, save the world time and time again.

How does she save the world from deadly demons, creepy creatures, and awful alien intruders on the earth? With hope, love, and friendship. The friendship she shares with the other Sailor Soldiers, (each named after their own respective planet in this solar system) is not only a powerful one, it is one that has transcended time as well.

She, along with the other Soldiers, are reincarnations from a time and space long ago in which there was an alliance of planets known as the Silver Millenium. Because of the transistion through time however, none of the Soldiers were aware of their past lives. Usagi herself is a reincarnation of the Princess of the Moon, Serenity. The other Soldiers in their previous lives were princesses to their respective planets (Ex: Sailor Mars was the Princess of Mars, ect ect.) and they were also charged with the protection of Serenity. Each Soldier has powers befitted to her that lends itself from her homeworld. (Ex: Mars is the planet of war and fire - therefore her powers are of fire and all fire based attacks.)

Also reincarnated into this time is Princess Serenity's lover, Endymion, the Prince of the Earth. He is now called Chiba Mamoru. Mamoru also has a superhero identity, Tuxedo Kamen.

The Soldiers, Tuxedo Kamen, and their friends on the side of good constantly face battles with the dark forces, and constantly overcome overwhelming odds. It's not only because of their strength of powers or will, but because of their faith in each other, love, and hope, that keep the team together and strong. And as always, if there is a villian around, as Sailor Moon would say, " In the name of the moon, I shall punish you!"

Other Information

Short facts:

- The creator/author of Sailor Moon is Takeuchi Naoko.

- Sailor Moon was NOT the first Sailor created. That honor goes to Sailor V, AKA, Sailor Venus. Sailor V and Sailor Moon's uniforms are similar in color, though with distinct differences. Notably is the red mask V wears.

- Sailor Moon made her debut in a manga, (Japanese comic book) BEFORE appearing in the anime.

- Sailor Moon has many incarnations including: Manga, Animation, Live Action, & Musicals.

- There are currently 3 Sailor Moon Movies, 5 Seasons of the Animation & 18 manga volumes, along with 50 "Acts" in the Live Action series, and 4 "Stages" of Sailor Moon Musicals from 1993 - 2004.

Important Events

      Each arc in the Sailor Moon saga has a specific storyline, and I'll outline the Important Events of each arc here. The manga and anime's general plot are pretty much the same with the exception of the 4th arc, SuperS. I'll explain better further down.

Arc 1

Arc 1 - " Sailor Moon "

Sailors Introduced - Moon, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, & Venus

Other Important Characters - Artemis (A white cat with a golden crescent shaped moon on his forehead. He resides with Minako/Sailor Venus. He also identified Venus as a Sailor in the Sailor V series), Luna (A black cat with a golden crescent shaped moon on her forehead. She resides with Usagi/Sailor Moon. She identified the other Sailors in the Sailor Moon series), Mamoru Chiba / Tuxedo Mask

Villians - "Dark Kingdom": Queen Metalia, Queen Beryl, Kunzite, Zoisite, Nephrite, Jaedite

Key Points - The identities and personalities of the Sailors are revealed. The sailors are reincarnations of their former lives and that the four sailors (Venus, Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter) are to protect Usagi (who is the reincarnation of the Moon Princess.) There enemies intent on taking over the Earth. The enemies method of take over is by stealing people's energy and possessing them. They are also intent on taking the Silver Crystal, an object of power which can destroy an entire world. The Silver Crystal is in Usagi's possession. Towards the end of this arc, Usagi actually turns into Princess Serenity of the Moon, and vanquishes the leaders of the Dark Kingdom.


Arc 2

Arc 2 - " Sailor Moon R "

New Sailors Introduced - Pluto

Other Important Characters - Chibi Usa/Small Lady (Future daughter of Sailor Moon & Tuxedo Mask)

Villians - " The Black Moon Family ": Rubeus, Ayakashi Sisters, Emerald, Prince Diamond, Sapphire, Wiseman, Wicked Lady

Key Points - In this arc the sailors must travel in time (with the aid of Sailor Pluto)in time to help a girl, whom they later learn is Usagi's daughter, in order to save their future world. The attacks are much like those of the Dark Kingdom, through energy stealing and possession. The leader of the attacks against their future (known as Crystal Tokyo) is infatuated with Sailor Moon because she looks like (and is a younger version) of the Queen of Crystal Tokyo. Chibi Usa and Usagi must work together with the power of their Silver Crystals in order to save their future world.


Arc 3

Arc 3 - " Sailor Moon S "

New Sailors Introduced - Neptune, Uranus, Saturn, Chibi Moon

Villians - " The Death Busters ": Professor Tomoe Souichi, Kaolinite, Eudial, Mimete, Tellu, Vilyu, Cyprine, Petit Roll, Mistress Nine, Pharoh 90

Key Points - In this arc the sailors find out there are more of them than they realized. Sailors Neptune and Uranus are determined to complete their mission of saving the world on their own terms. Only through the battles do they realize that Sailor Moon sincerly wants to help them, and to defeat the enemy.

Meanwhile, Chibi Usa has made a friend in Tomoe Hotaru, which is the reincarnation of Sailor Saturn. Because Saturn was reborn, Uranus and Neptune are convinced that the only way to keep the destruction of Earth from coming, they must destroy the holder of Saturn's soul, Hotaru.

Unfortunately, Hotaru becomes possessed by the second sleeping soul that is inside of her, Mistress 9. Mistress 9 and the now awakened soul of Saturn battle internally for control of Hotaru's body. Finally, Saturn wins, and is able to destroy Pharoh 90, which was the leader of all of the "Death Busters." Sailor Moon realizing that in order for Saturn to defeat Pharoh 90, Saturn herself must be destroyed. Distraught over the idea of Chibi Usa's friend dying, Sailor Moon uses her power and allows Hotaru to be reborn again.


Arc 4

Arc 4 - " Sailor Moon SuperS "

New Sailors Introduced - (Manga/comic only!) Ceres, Juno, Vesta, & Palla

Villians - " The Black Moon Circus ": Ziorconia, Hawks Eye, Tigers Eye, Fish Eye, Queen Nehelenia, Cerecere, Junjun, Vesves, Pallapalla

Key Points - The manga and anime version of this arc are very different from each other but I'll try my best not to get you confused.

In the Manga -

In the Anime - A new enemy arrives, and they call themselves the Dead Moon Circus, and they are led by Queen Nehelenia. Their objective is to find the Golden Crystal, which is held in the Golden Dream Mirror and protected by Pegasus.

Pegasus, being a being of good and light, comes to the aid of Sailor Moon and the other sailors and gives them not only a new transformations, but stronger powers and weapons as well, so that they can defeat the minons of Queen Nehelenia. Whenever they battle, it becames Chibi Moon's task to call upon him and ask them to grant them the strength to fight and defeat the enemy.

As the season progresses, Mamoru's health grows steadily worse, and Pegasus reveals a secret to Chibi Usa. Pegasus is actually a priest named Helios and that Mamoru's health is in direct correlation to how the evil is spreading across the world. The more dangerous and evil creatures there are, the worse his illness becomes.

At last, Nehelenia finds her target, the holder of the most beautiful dream mirror, Chibi Usa. She captures Chibi Usa and forces Pegasus to relinquish the Golden Crystal. It appears that Nehelenia has won, but Amazon Quartet have pity on the Sailor Soldiers, steal the Crystal and gives it to Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon cannot wield the Crystal, so Chibi Moon tries by calling on the people of Earth to help in the fight. They answer her pleas and Nehelenia realizing defeat, decides on a last attempt to cause Sailor Moon as much pain as possible. She pushes Chibi Moon off of the topmost ledge of the building they are on and tells Sailor Moon that the most beautiful dream she has is now gone. Sailor Moon stands on the ledge and says that she feels sorry for Nehelenia, and jumps after Chibi Moon. As they fall, Sailor Moon begs Chibi Moon to wake up, and to call Pegasus. Chibi Moon eventually does, and Pegasus flies towards them and grants them one more gift, wings, so they can land safely.


Arc 5

Arc 5 - " Sailor Moon Stars"

New Sailors Introduced - " Sailor Starlights ": Seiya Kou/Sailor Star Fighter, Taiki Kou/Sailor Star Maker, Yaten Kou/Sailor Star Healer

Villians - " Sailor Animates ": Galaxia, Iron Mouse, Aluminum Siren, Lead Crow, Tin Nyanko

Key Points - More new sailors arrive in Toyko, and to add to such a confusing mix, some of the new soldiers are good, and some are evil. With such uncertainties, our original soldiers must discover what the motives of the Starlights are, and how to stop the Animates from taking over the world.

Towards the end of the arc, it's revealed that the Starlights are guardians of their own homeworld, and are searching for their own Princess, who escaped from Galaxia. Galaxia is the most powerful soldier of all. She has actually sealed Chaos, the root of all evil and the beginnings of all of their own enemies into her own body, in an attempt to stop Chaos from taking over the universe.

Unfortunately, Galaxia's body and mind has been corrupted. Now Sailor Moon must fight Galaxia and restore the balance of good and evil.

In the Manga - Galaxia is destroyed by Chaos. Sailor Moon then plunges Chaos into the Galaxy Cauldron (the place where all sailor soldiers souls are born) and though Chaos is defeated, Chaos can be reborn from the cauldron. This would restore the balance of good and evil. Mamoru and Usagi get married.

In the Anime - Sailor Moon holds out her hand to Galaxia instead of fighting. Her show of love and faith in Galaxia causes Chaos to leave Galaxia's body and though Chaos is defeated, Chaos can be reborn again. Restoring the balance of good and evil. Life goes on as normal for the Sailors. Mamoru tells Usagi he loves her.

Sailor Moon
Sailor Moon - AKA Tsukino Usagi AKA Serena

Likes - Rabbits, Eating, & Sleeping.

Personality - A bit childish, but has a good heart.

Information - As Princess of the Moon, and holder of the Ginzuishou (Silver Crystal), Usagi's powers are an ever evolving phenomenon. Though powerful as Sailor Moon in battle, when all seems lost or hopeless, Usagi transforms into her past life self: Princess Serenity, and with the possession of the crystal in hand, she is able to do extra-ordinary things.

Sailor Venus
Sailor Venus - AKA Aino Minako AKA Mina

Likes - Curry, Chasing Idols, & Playing Volleyball

Personality - Can be a bit silly, but is a true leader.

Information - Venus has a special role in the Sailor Moon story. As leader of the Soldiers it was her job to protect the princess by saying that she was actually the princess, until Usagi's memories of the past life awakened. Venus is also special because she was the very first soldier who's memories were awakened and she began her training before all the others. All of her attacks have "love" or "heart" in the name.

Sailor Mars
Sailor Mars - AKA Hino Rei AKA Raye

Likes - Puffer Fish & Fire Readings

Personality - Can be sharp, but has good intentions.

Information - Mars' has wonderfully sharp intution and that has helped the soldiers on many occasions before and during battle. Her training as a priestess in her grandfather's shrine has no doubt helped hone her skills in this area. Mars' attacks are fire based and therefore include "fire" in most of the names.

Sailor Jupiter
Sailor Jupiter - AKA Kino Makoto AKA Lita

Likes - Cherry Pie, Cooking, & Roses

Personality - Strong, yet very dependable and caring.

Information - Jupiter's personality at first was presented as a "tough girl" but we learn that she's not at all that way. She is in fact a very warm person. This does not stop her from using her strength and powers in battle, however. When in battle she proves to be a formidable opponant. Her powers are weather based, and most feature the call for "thunder" or "lightning" in the name.

Sailor Mercury
Sailor Mercury - AKA Mizuno Ami AKA Amy

Likes - Sandwiches & Reading

Personality - Shy, but very intelligent.

Information - Mercury, while the shyest of the soldiers, is also certainly the most logical of the soldiers. She provides solutions to problems that the other soldiers might not be able to think of. She also provides a "grounding" factor that the other girls need at certain times. If the girls begin chattering about boys or movies while studying, you can be sure Ami will be the one to bring them back to the Math equations. Mercury's attacks are water based and her attacks names are rather varied, but some feature "aqua" in them.

Tuxedo Mask
Tuxedo Mask - AKA Chiba Mamoru AKA Darien

Likes - Chocolate & Reading

Personality - Intelligent, but almost too logical and predictable.

Information - Mamoru is the reincarnation of Prince Endymion of Earth. Now as Tuxedo Mask, Mamoru helps the sailors fight against evil. Often he encourages Sailor Moon during battle and reminds her what she must protect, which often is her friends, family, and future. Later in the series, we learn that he has too as a crystal, the Golden Crystal, which although not as powerful as Serenity's Silver Crystal, it still plays a vital role in the protection of Earth itself.

Sailor Chibi Moon
Sailor Chibi Moon - AKA Chibi Usa AKA Rini

Likes - Pudding, Bunnies

Personality - A bit spoiled, but is a true friend

Information - Chibi Usag is the future daughter of Usagi (Sailor Moon) and Mamoru (Tuxedo Mask). Chibi Usa came from the future city known as Crystal Tokyo to ask for Sailor Moon's help, because Crystal Tokyo has been attacked and the queen (Usagi's future self) is no longer able to defend the city. Chibi Usa eventually follows in the footsteps of Usagi and learns to use the Silver Crystal, and also later learns to become Sailor Chibi Moon. The soldier of the FUTURE Moon.

Sailor Pluto
Sailor Pluto - AKA Meioh Setsuna AKA Trista

Likes - Green Tea & Shopping

Personality - Mysterious and solitary.

Information - Pluto is the Guardian of the Gates of Time. She is a very mysterious figure, and although she has been forbidden to leave her post at the Gates, she has done so when she felt it was nessacery to preserve the time-line. She holds one of the three pure treasures, the jewel, The Garent Orb, which rests upon the top of her key shaped staff. Her attacks are varied in name but some feature "Time" in them.

Sailor Neptune
Sailor Neptune - AKA Kiaoh Michiru AKA Michelle

Likes - Sashimi & Painting

Personality - Elegant, almost to a fault.

Information - Neptune is the soldier of the sea. She is the match of Sailor Uranus, who is the soldier of the wind. For a long time the two worked together without the aid of the other soldiers. She is a holder of one of the three pure treasures, the mirror, The Deep Aqua Mirror. Her attacks, much like those of Mercury, deal with water and therefore have "Aqua" in the call name.

Sailor Uranus
Sailor Uranus - AKA Tenoh Haruka AKA Amara

Likes - Salad & Racing

Personality - Strong, almost to a fault.

Information - Uranus is the soldier of the wind. She is the match of Sailor Neptune, who is the soldier of the sea. For a long time the two worked together without the aid of the other soldiers. She is a holder of one of the three pure treasures, the sword, The Space Sword. Her attacks, oddly enough have nothing to do with wind, but instead call upon the words "World" and "Space."

Sailor Saturn
Sailor Saturn - AKA Tomoe Hotaru

Likes - Japanese noodles & Collecting Lamps

Personality - Tender and somewhat weak, yet powerful.

Information - When not transformed into Saturn, Hotaru is a weak small girl. However, upon transforming Saturn is the soldier of Death. She is the Guide for Death, and is called upon when the three pure treasures are brought together. It is a sign of terrible consequences, should the soldier of Death be reborn into life, for that means that her power to destroy the world is at hand and she must fulfill her destiny. Despite her great power, it is in fact a double-edge sword, because once she has completed her task, she too dies. She has one weapon, the Glaive.
