Black       Doctor
Originated by:  James Wright 1845, England 1829 - 1902
The Black Doctor is rated  one of the two finest flies ever tied. The other, also originated by Mr. Wright, is the Thunder and Lightning. In any salmon river, on the Atlantic or Pacific world wide the Black Doctor is a must in any true fly-fishermans collections. The one below is dressed in a Mixed-Feather-Wing. Others are available dressed in a full fur wing.

TAG:     5-6 wraps silver wire and yellow floss
TAIL:   A topping and chatterer
BUTT:    Scarlet ostridge herl
BODY:    Black floss
RIBS:    Silver oval-braided tinsel
HACKLE:     Blue hackle from the 2nd turn, palmered
THROAT:     Blue jay
WINGS:     Tippet in strands: pintail, dark mottled turkey, swan dyed blue, yellow and red (or) red macaw, gallina, golden pheasant tail, bronze mallard and a topping
HORNS:    Blue macaw (opt.)
CHEEKS:     Chatterer
