Experience Summary
-
Over 23 years of hands-on engineering experience in advanced research,
real-time embedded system design, VLSI development, and test equipment
development, using: power-saving, easily-testable and fail-softly system
architectures, efficient algorithms, microprocessors, memories, graphics,
I/O, and communications controllers, mixed signal ICs, CPLDs, FPGAs, and
Cell Based SoC ASICs, and Verilog, VHDL and OrCAD design tools.
-
Over 14 years of management experience in strategic product planning, system
architecture, hardware, VLSI, and system product development, system assurance,
partnership management, test equipment development, and applications engineering,
with responsibilities over multiple functional and project groups.
-
Have led as well as participated in various cross-functional groups such
as special task forces and virtual focus entities. Have also been a core
member of four start-up companies and was a cofounder for two of them.
-
Have also provided engineering consulting services to more than 10 small
and medium size companies.
-
Over all, have developed more than 100 different PCBs, 10 System on Chip
(SoC) ASICs, 20 small box systems, and 5 very complex systems.
Employment Highlights
-
CacheVision, Inc.: System engineered the PCI/Ethernet based CacheVision
PVR (Personal Video Recorder) Reference Design. Developed the CacheVision
PVR Module and the PVR Module Exerciser. Set up the Multi-Standard Multi-Regional
Audio/Video System Engineering Laboratory. Directed the Systems Engineering
department.
-
Hitachi Microsystems, Inc.: Led the PCMCIA/ATA based HiPer Card
Flash Disk product development from market requirement analysis to demo-system
completion, including the Flash Disk Controller ASIC development. Also,
led the IEEE1284/Xionics Hikari language based multifunction laser printer
project, developing printer system architecture specification, printer
controller ASIC specification, and printer controller reference PCB design.
Served as a Task Group Chairman of the JEDEC JC-11 Committee and created
the widely popular Dual-In-line Memory Module (DIMM) standard. Managed
the Systems and Modules group.
-
Hitachi Microsystems, Inc. (Previously): Set up the System Assurance
Laboratory and procedures, and trained the group in low-cost microprocessor
emulator and evaluation board system assurance activities. Prior to this,
led the development of a 3-chip SCSI Disk Controller VLSI circuit set that
was widely used in IBM PS/2 computers. Have also performed product planning
and definition work in the area of high resolution graphics controller
and color palette VLSI circuits, finally developing a TFT AMLCD Flat Panel
Display controller reference PCB design. Managed the System Assurance group.
