THE FLEA MARKET |
I have been quite a busy girl since uploading the first two pics of my fleamarket diorama. I have made a clock stall, selling all kinds of clocks, etc and a second-hand stall, selling brassware and china and whatever knick-knacks that I think may grab a shopper's fancy. The clock shop is far from finished - while I have finished the basic stand, I still have to find some more clocks to fill the empty spaces. (I like my stands to be laden with goodies). I found a nice site some time ago that sells Cuckoo clocks. I printed a page of clock faces and then made boxes more or less the right size and pasted the clock face on the front. Very thin chain and sequins sufficed for the pendulums for the modern cuckoo clocks and very thin chain and the tiniest of cone pines I could find for the more traditional cuckoo clocks. Some of the clocks are merely pics cut out and pasted onto Balsa wood bases. I have a few brass clocks, two of them being the dome type with their glass covers. I haven't been able to find too many miniature clocks for my stall - plastic, brass or otherwise. When I strike it lucky in the lotto, I am going to buy some of those tiny brass clocks that really work - they are hellish expensive, but I think in the long run they may just be worth it. It would sound really nice to have a soft ticking sound emanating from the stall. The following is a pic of my clock stand - it is not very clear, having been taken with a very cheap digicam, that I am still not too sure how to use. Anyway, it gives you the general gist of the stall. |

The next stall is the second-hand stall, where one can buy antiques and other items of historic interest. I have laden this stall with brass lamps of all kinds, vases, candlesticks and a candlebra, an old gramaphone, some nice little china knick knacks. I also found some decorated Indian elephants and some Egyptian jars, a model of the Egyptian cat Godess and a model of King Tut's head - these last three items are all quite huge and are standing on the ground beneath the table. When I tell you this stall is laden, I mean exactly that - I tried to pick the whole caboodle up to move it and found I couldn't without risking the whole table collapsing, so I had to unpack everything, put the stall in place and then re-pack the display. |

If you have a look at the pic with three stalls and change it as follows, you may have some idea of how it looks at the moment in its display cabinet. Move the Toy stall right into the corner and squeeze all the toys on the ground a little closer together and half under the table. Then put in the second hand stall (now laden with goodies on the main table, the two shelves, the top and also under the table. Then put the clock stall right up against the second hand stall and lastly, put the flower stall in the other corner. That is more or less what it looks like now. Of course the flea market display changes nearly every day. I have two chairs next to my display and I sit and have my morning coffee there and while I am drinking my coffee, I tend to fiddle a lot with the displays - seems as tho the dolls really do come to life at night and do things when there are no eyes to see. I know the photographs are not too clear right now, but as soon as I get my new camera, I will take new pics and post them up. In the meantime, please enjoy these. |
