'ghost-like' Gods of Music review
7.30 out of 10

Billed as "slow and beautiful music", one-man band sans arc lives up to its own hype. Ambient rock, a la [wait for it - everyone's fave touchstone] godspeed you black emperor. Cool background moody stuff, ethereal synth, sampler and guitar layers with a refreshingly big [live-sounding, though I'm skeptical] drum. The title betrays the mood perfectly: "ghost-like". No verse-chorus singalongs here.

To take a more critical tact, I'm not utterly sold on the vocal layer, plaintive and largely undiscernible lyrics [though I did eventually read 'em on the site] delivered in a manner that seems both mildly off-key whiny [not edgy-confident whiny like Thom Yorke either] and also with a tinge of a faux-artsy-Brit-Depeche Mode accent. And yeah I checked, he's from Jersey.

Anyways, still. That's a minor beef with an overall strong art-rock piece. Fans of ambient sigur ros-new wave-godspeed stuff will wanna get sans arc on their next mixer so pretentious music knowitalls can raise their thinly plucked eyebrows and go "who's THAT?", only to be greeted with you knowing smile.
