Star gazing this one is brought on by moving from an aviary into a cage and the stress involved where the finch sits on a perch and bends its head backward and looks as if it is looking at the stars hence Star gazing.This I found was easily solved as I moved the pair back into the aviary.I have asked in several different Forums and all came to this conclusion.
TWIRLING | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Now this is altogether different see pictures on the left.
This condition is thought to be several different things no one is really sure: Ear Infection.Blown ear drum. Lack of Vit.B Pinched neck muscle or damaged muscle after an accident ie. aviary without night light. Genetic predisposition. |
Symptoms As seen on the left and also unable to fly and lack of balance being unable to perch.The bird on the left is my male found 25.12.03 on the bottom of the aviary in the afternoon. |
Treatment This is what is recommended remove to a cage with food and water on the floor.I have seen these in use: SMZ Liquid or Trimethoprim 1 drop in the mouth everyday for 2 weeks it also takes about a month to heal after liquid has been given(USA)found on the website below Lady Gouldian Finch Vitamen B extra added to the water found this on a German Forum. Nystatin added to water found this on the NFSS website in the articles section. |
Results The Nystatin treatment is supposed to have a good success rate and this is the one I am trying. After 4 days I have seen an improvement which seems to be getting better with each day.The only problem seen is that he would not drinkl or not seen so my Wife and I have been forcing him to drink gently.I have also added Vit.B to the drinking water as well. 15.01.04 no great improvement can fly a little better and sing abit,I have also read it can take upto six weeks. |
