A JCSC at the University of Minnesota
My experiences these past 2 years working at the University of Minnesota were both inspiring and exciting.  Through personal connections, creative programming, and an open and pluralistic Jewish setting I feel I have had a direct connection to the flourishing of Jewish life on campus. The goal of my postiton as the JCSC Fellow  is to inspire and empower Jewish students on campus to participate in Jewish life in whatever way works for them.   I worked to help new students and returning students find creative opportunities for the expression of their Judaism in a large campus environment. One of the many goals of a JCSC here at the University of Minnesota is to connect unengaged students with other Jewish students, other staff at Hillel, and other community resource.  As a result I hope this process will encourage a student  to explore the opportunities of community and satisfaction created by being involved in Jewish life on campus.  The goals are never to make someone "more Jewish," but to connect with them at a level of Jewish identity they are comfortable with and from there explore the many possibilites!
The goal of the Jewish Campus Service Corps Fellowship is to engage, inspire and empower students who do not ordinarily associate with a Jewish presence on campus.  This position can be difficult, but most importantly incredibly fulfilling and fun!  Jewish students here at the University of Minnesota are not adverse to Jewish experiences.  Often the greatest obastacles to the JCSC position is the geographical maginitude of the campus and a ubiquitous emotional distance and lack of a sense of community here at the U.
