WHEN??    WHERE??    WHO??    HOW??

SAV Clothing Line was first established in January of 2001 in East Palo Alto, California by two youth entrepreneurs by the names of Theron (TJ) Jones and Cyrus Goode through a non-profit organization called BUILD (Business United in Investing, Lending and Developing). The CEO of BUILD, Suzanne McKenzie-Klahr, inticed the two to come to the weekly meetings that were held after-school at Eastside High School; teaching them how to run their own business, therefore becoming business entrepreneurs.

WHY??

They chose to create the clothing line named, "SAV", (noun), because the word is short for "savage", and is a term used among the target market of young adults and teenagers as a person who enjoys life, lives their life to the fullest, and tries their hardest to succeed. One can try their hardest to succeed in anything, for example, working in their job, playing sports, getting their education; whatever it be, they are doing what they do best and trying their hardest to succeed and enjoy their life.

THE STORY...

So, the idea and design was made, but what about the actual product? Well the capital was hard to come by as a $2,500 grant was given to K&N Fashion Consulting, run by CEO - Amber Bundy, and not to us due to the fact that we ranked second place in the 2nd Annual BUILD Business Plan Competition (May 2001).
Therefore, the summer was quickly approaching and it was time for Theron (TJ) to go to the business summer camp, NFTE (National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship) Summer Session 2002, held at Stanford University; and it was also time for Cyrus to practice basketball at recreational leagues and at Eastside High School, thus SAV Clothing being put at hold for the summer.
Though, after the summer ended, Theron (TJ) wanted to continue the clothing line, while Cyrus chose to focus on his basketball skills. From here on (August 20, 2002), SAV Clothing Line was being run as a sole proprietorship by CEO - Theron (TJ) Jones.
This only made TJ more eager, and he receieved a grant of $250 from BUILD, but knew that it was time to put in lots of more work and get more capital raised, therefore he spent extensive time making numerous desings with the help of fashion consultant, Amber Bundy, and updated everything in the business; anticipating and later scheduling a meeting with venture capitalists Ben Dubin and Celim Yildizhan of Asset Management for two rounds, raising a total of $1,835 as an interest-free loan (compliments of BUILD, December 2001 - See Almanac Article).
From here on out it was all about getting the products made, and since winter was quickly approacing TJ knew what the consumers needed. Therefore came out with the long-sleeve T-shirt, "INDEPENDENT" (released - 12/22/01), and the hooded-sweatshirt, "KNOWLEDGE" (released - 1/14/02).
As of now, (02/22/02), SAV Clothing has made OVER $1,300 in revenue and is still growing at a rapid rate. The next steps are moving from more of independent sales to retail sales, where negotiations are being made to have "SAV" products placed in stores in East Palo Alto, Sunnyvale mall, Oakland shops, and independent stores in San Francisco.
