Looks like We Energies is starting early! Milwaukee (A.P.) - We Energies asked the state for permission to raise its customers' rates by an average of nearly 7 percent next year. The Milwaukee-based utility filed a request Friday with the state Public Service Commission for a $143.6 million increase. That would mean an additional $4.96 on a residential customer's typical monthly bill, the utility said. The company cited increased operating costs that have not been passed on t customers in the last five years. The utility has received approval for rate increases to pay for costs such as fuel, government mandates and reliability upgrades. The utility serves more than 1.1 million electric customers in Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula and more than 1 million natural gas customers in Wisconsin.
