About the Public Inquiry

  • Public Inquiry Rules (Crown Copywright) 21 Page summary of rules and deadlines etc. While we await being contacted by the Council/Inquiry Case Manager this is the best information we have - as of Friday 27 July 2007

    The Property Developers etc

  • Langtree McLean - Festival Gardens 16 page brochure in PDF form. A lot of hype and 'iconic' type jargon but useful revelations about the way the apartment bocks on the prom will "oversail" the embankment.

  • "Fly-thru" video simulation Very slick production somewhat undermined by the fact that it is what the Festival Gardens "might look like in 25 years time"and that they don't have the courage to take a look up and down the prom at the new 'concrete curtain'that their apartment blocks will provide.

    Campaign Supporters

  • Our Ground Comprehensively informative website about "news, issues and images of public open spaces in Liverpool and beyond". The Professional photographs on this site (by photographer John Davies)also make it a bit of an art gallery.

  • Save The Festival Gardens Hosted by the Liverpool Monuments website - more usually dedicated to saving the built environment - this is an interesting article by Karen Fletcher written after the first meeting that set up the current campaign. Excellent photos from the site over the years.

  • 2002 Campaign The website of an earlier campaign against a similar scheme which was withdrawn without gaining planning permission. Useful background on the ecology of the site.

  • Violet Maze Adventures Lively Blog about developments at the Festival Gardens with original artwork by Tracey Dunn

    Local Media

  • Liverpool Daily Post Liverpool's local 'broadsheet' morning paper with a comprehensive web version. It is Liverpool's 'paper of record' and has a very useful searchable database on stories and Letters to the Editor. The Daily Post letters page provided the first letter that actually got the campaign going - so we're fans.

The Daily Post accepts letters (250 words max) by e-mail so you can make a quick response to news and other people's views. E-mail letters@dailypost.co.uk with Letters to the Editor in the subject line and a name, address and daytime phone number attached - though you can ask to be identified by just initials and post code

  • Liverpool Echo Liverpool's evening newspaper - actually a sister paper to the Post but with a lively more 'tabloid' style.

They seem to like their lettters a bit shorter and more down to earth than the Post - but they've always given the campaign a fair hearing.Write to  letters@liverpoolecho.co.uk with Letters to the Editor in the subject line and again you need to supply name, address and daytime phone number - though you can ask to be identified by just initials and post code

  • Radio Merseyside Main news and views station for Liverpool and around - and a bit of a gateway to getting North West and National coverage on the BBC and its news websites. Searchable database - and some fascinating material going back to 1984 and pushing the dereliction angle. For example Garden Festival - 20 Years On.

Lunchtime (12.00 - 2.00) phone-in by Roger Phillips provides useful forum for the campaign - though his job is to be the 'devil's advocate' so don't expect instant agreement. Phone (0151) 709 9333 - ask for the Roger Phillips programme researcher, say what you want to talk about and then wait till they phone you back and you are 'live on air'.

  • Juice FM Music station with great local news reporting in quite serious chunks of time. Head of News is Catherine Davies catherine@juiceliverpool.com and Katie Collins who does the news on Sunday lives in Aigburth katie.collins@juiceliverpool.com

  • BBC 'North West' Internet Forum  web debate of varying sanity - but often sharp and to the point - check it out before contributing.

  • ic 'North West' web debate web debate also of varying sanity - also but often sharp and to the point - also to be checked out before contributing.

  • Riverside Gardens Website Totally comprehensive website for the local community closest to the Festival Gardens. Great links to other sites and important archive of 'old' information and pictures that are difficult to get elsewhere.

    Local Government and Regional Agencies

  • Liverpool Council Searchable database for committee agendas and minutes of meetings. Occasional glitches in software and it takes some time to find your way around (plus it's not exactly exciting stuff) but in general brilliant.

  • Mersey Waterfront Website linked to Investing in England's North West - usual jargon but still a useful source of information.

  • A Leisure Guide to the Estuary Website offering the 'consumer' side of the investment coin - usual hype but still a useful source of information.
