Lucky resting in the shade under the trees, November 11, 2002
My wonderful dog died of advanced lung cancer, April 21, 2003. I wrote this web site in case what I went through with her might help someone else. I've been searching the web and have found so much practical information as well as words of solace. Losing a pet who has become a part of you and your family is a painful experience to go through and it was helpful to share in other's experience. I include a journal of our days with Lucky and how we found out she was ill, including a page of links to wonderful sites of relevant information. The journal began when a number of people were asking for daily updates.

As time has passed while keeping this journal, Lucky lived much longer than the vet anticipated. First she had only two weeks, then she wouldn't live to Christmas, and although her health visibly declined, she rebounded often, adjusting weekly to changes in her breathing, and still responsive to us. We would like to think it was our love, a change in diet, and putting her on prednisone that bought us extra time. Lucky adjusted daily to her condition. People have shared their stories with me that they also experienced longer time with their pet. It was wonderful to have the time to say good-bye. We spent many quality moments with her. But the day she died was still heartwrenching. The ebb and flow of life to death is never easy. I miss her so much.
