Because of circumstances beyond our control there was no official meeting for the camp in March. Several members did show up for a planning session and a meal. Brigade Commander Joel Goolsby delivered our Confederate History and heritage posters at this meeting. These are an excellent tool to promote our history in schools and libraries. These will be delivered to area schools and libraries the first week of April.

April 24th is Confederate Memorial Day A State Holiday in Alabama

The Capt. Mortimer Jordan Camp Will meet at the Gardendale Shoney's Restaurant Tuesday April 4th at 7pm. everyone is welcome to attend this event. The program will be the history of Confederate Memorial Day across the South.


The following is a list of April events of the Capt. Mortimer Jordan Camp. We need all members to make plans to attend as many of these events as possible.

April 4th 7pm at the Gardendale Shoney's Restaurant- the monthly camp meeting.

April 15th Saturday 1pm: at the Morris Cemetery Behind Mortimer Jordan High School. Marking of the graves of Confederate Soldiers. Remembering their sacrifices. Grave marking day for the camp.

April 22nd Saturday: at the Gardendale Civic Center- All day event. The Gardendale Magnolia Festival. The camp will have a recruitment tent, weapon display, and free Confederate Money for all children. Bring a folding chair and something interesting to display.
Ice-cold root beer and goober peas will be available. Be there at 9am.

April 23rd.Sunday: Laying of a wreath at the 100 year old Confederate Monument at Lynn Park in Birmingham. 2pm. Then will go to Oak Hills Cemetery nearby to place Confederate Flags at the graves of Capt. Mortimer Jordan, General Edmond Rucker,  Charles Linn a Confederate Blockade-runner, Capt. Robert Henley and others.
Good walking shoes and a sense of adventure required. Lemon-aid and cookies will be served after the tour.

Alabama Division Events

The Captain William Houston Shelby Camp # 1537 will have it's annual Confederate memorial Day service at the Shelby Springs Confederate Cemetery on April 23rd.  The time will be either 2:00 or 2:30 in the afternoon.  The time should be finalized this week.

On the 8th of April in Wetumpka, Al., the 5th Annual Confederate History and
Heritage Month Parade will take place. It gets bigger every year. A short
Parade through downtown Wetumpka, thatıs why I said SHORT parade.
It will end at the park on the Coosa River. There will be speakers, vendors,
food, and good ole down home fellowshipping.
The parade will be lead by the Sons of Confederate Veterans Mechanized
Cavalry. There will be horse drawn wagons, horses and marchers. If you have
a uniform, wear it proudly. Bring your flags if you like, because they are
Welcome in Wetumpka.
The parade will start at 10 oıclock promptly, (rain or shine).
If the good Lord is willing and the creek donıt rise like it did last year,
the keynote speaker will be George Wallace Jr.
Hope to see all of our Southron Brothers and Sisters there.
