For the cutest hamster ever

1/96-11/98

Hello all you Taco fans out there! (Supposing that you know who and what a Taco is) This is the one and only page on the internet you will find that is so devoted to the little orange hamster named: Taco.

I'm sorry to say, that Taco passed away on Nov 16, 1998. He was born on the last few days of 1995. Thats a long life for Taco! The day before he died, we took him to the vet. They injected water into him (because they said he was dehydrated) and told me he had a big kidney. The next day after Taco died, we brought him in for a sort of 'autopsy', and they said that it wasn't a big kidney, but a big toumor. Right now, Taco's discarded body is resting peacfully in the frozen grounds of Minnesota under a walnut tree along with 2 other dead rodent bodies. His spirit is on the Rainbow Bridge, most likely waiting for me to join him. *sniff*

In the above picture, Taco is saying "Die". In the below picture, Taco is saying: "Die". It every picture you see Taco in, he is saying: "Die". For that is the only word in his vocabulary- you see. Taco has brownish-red eyes that are almost black. Taco has a clubfoot. Taco has a bent tail. Taco has a errang hole in his left ear. Taco dosn't bite AT ALL. For he is just a fuzzy, scuzzy little blob. Many hamsters are. Taco eats everything humans do (except peppers, pickles, candy, and they totally despise of greasy chips, and french fries, unless I lick the grease and salt off) and even bugs like crickets, flys, spiders, mealworms, flowers, grass, hay, feathers, metal bars and blocks of wood (to wear down their teeth.) Now I will copy/paste everything I put on my 6th grade Science project about putting Taco in a maze.

About Taco......
Taco is a cinnimon hamster. His ears are grey, and the rest of his body is covered by a beautiful pattern of orange and grey. All hamsters have flatten-able rib bones that can squeeze through the tunnels of a burrow, or under a door to excape. Hamsters Also have hip glands, (more noticable on male hamsters) they ru their hip(s) (glands) against the walls of their burrows, or their tubes (for pet hamsters). (Have you ever notice I use these ()'s a lot?) (No, this/that part is not on my Science project.) The glands give off a special scent that other hamsters can smell, Instead of going to the bathroom everywhere. Taco does have hip glands (some missing fur on each hip) when I look closely, I see some tiny black dots for his hip glands- where the scent comes out I guess. By the time Taco was at the Science fair, he was be 31 years old. Yes, 31 years old...... In hamster years :) I found out (by using math) in people years, he is over a year old. I bought Taco in the middle of Febuary, 1997. Every hour is a day for Taco, every 2 weeks is a year for Taco. (and all hamsters). Some noticable things about Taco: I already told you aout Taco's foot, but he also has a hole in his left ear.... The perfect errang hole..... Taco is also very calm. He wont bite unless you pull his fur, or if you smell like food, or another dominant hamster.

Taco will eat about anything, from erasers to Smores pop-tart crusts. From dog food to minnows (he mistakes them for anchovies). And he eats bugs, and cheese-its (sometimes he ignores them, sometimes he shoves them in his cheekpouches).

As it says above, Taco was born in late December, early January at a cheap but good, small pet store near an island in Minnesota, Duluth. There were three hamsters that looked just like him in his litter (he was a triplet!!).. weird.. I just remembered that. Anyways, Taco excaped a few times (but always was found) and lived most of his life happily in our tiny, shabby, rented house on the island. Later me and my dad moved back with the rest of our family nearer the capital of Minnesota to the house where Taco died while I was at school. Before that, we would bring Taco along to and from Duluth/the twin cities every single weekend. So he's traveled a lot! He's a really good traveling partner though... or was... *sniff* Ok, here is the part of my Science project that is about hamsters in general: In 1930, Dr. Israel Aharoni discovered a nest of Syrian (Golden) Hamsters. It was the first time that hamsters were held captive, prisnors to amuse the humans as pets. Before then, many though hamsters were extinct. Now, 24 hamster species are known to people. There is only one big difference between hamsters: Wild hamsters (that still live in the desert) are larger than the pet hamsters, and they have peach-black fur.
