A few things you'll notice when you visit this church is how uneven the floor is, the brilliant colors of the painting, the candle chandeliers, and how cool it is inside.  Outside temperature was about 80 degrees the day I visited, it was at least 10 degrees cooler inside because of the massive walls.

This church is located along the Turquoise Trail which is an alternate route from Albuquerque to Santa Fe.  It sits on a hilltop in a curve in the road, and is easy to miss.  Unlike many of the historic adobe churches in Northern New Mexico, this one is whitewashed and in pristine condition because of its location off the beaten track.

I love this church but have seen it undergo some change over the past 9 years, mostly increased visitation, some of which is by visitor's who come to see the soil that is said to heal the sick which is in a room to the left of the altar. I have also seen an increase in large tour buses visiting.   While this is good for the local shops around the church, it is now hard for worshippers to get the peace to say a prayer.  This church is still a local church that hold services on a regular basis, some of which have had to endure visitors coming in and out the doors. So do me a favor next time you visit, leave a few dollars in the donation box for upkeep of this historical treasure, visit as many shops as you can, and always remember, to many who walk around you, this place is holy ground.
