| www.keropiansculpture.com/houdrest.html Restoration work on the USA`s National Academy of Design`s L`Ecorche by Houdon. Casts of the arms, and possibly whole figure avaialable. www.artgalleryofhamilton.on.ca/graphics/Houdon%20lg.jpg Another photograph of the Ecorche whose right arm differs in inclination to the one I picture at HOME. The left hand`s index finger doesnt come into contact with the cylinder, as it does in the next link from Angers, France The photography and composition doesnt lend the Ecorche it`s dignity, i have to say unlike the Wanadoo site to follow: www.med.univ-angers.fr/disciplines/lab_anat/eicononew.html This site has very interesting rsources if your`e interested in anatomical study. What would Houdon have made of the 3D videos?! The cast featured here, seems to be a close resemblance to the HOME page cast and: perso.wanadoo.fr/patrice.perron/Oeuvre.htm The images here seem to be in reverse! I am quite sure Houdon or someone hasn`t attempted to make a mirror of the original composition! Nethertheless, this cast seems to have been painted or, a casualty of the old art schools that used fossil fuels to" keep the lads warm". The result being large amounts of soot was deposited on the cast collection over a considerable period of time. *I will endeavour to chase up experimntal restoration techniques in the near future. www.prefigurations.com/numero3/revueserie/htm /serie_I4meme.htm www.florenceacademyofart.com/curr/exd.html a rather dishevelled ecorche come cadaver, but anyhow, shows that in Italy examples of the cast exist with the support. www.rettorato.unito.it/ufficiostampa/pubblicazioni/dossier/doss03 HTML version available, use scorticato and olivetti in the Google search engine www.missouri.edu/~iversonj/fr318/beauxarts/ houdon.ecorche.jpeg biocfarm.unibo.it/museocere/lelli_t.htm This Italian University site hosts some morbid wax ecorche`s,and this one, in florence: www.unifi.it/unifi/anatistol/museo.htm www.artcyclopedia.com/feature-2003-06-Houdon-Ecorche.html has an excellent but brief review on the exhibition at the National Gallery Art, Washington. it is said to be the first international exhibition of it`s kind about the sculptor`s work. in this exhibition, the Ecorche and St. john the Baptist stand side by side and the Gallery claims that it is the first time that the Academie de France, rome, has given permission for this cast to be sent abroad. The exhibition tours, to L.A and to Versailles. Below, is the original, as photographed by the National Gallery of Art, Washington. |
