THE SIMPLE PAST TENSE
Study the passages below and observe the changes in verb forms
What do you do every day? (Simple Present Tense)

In the morning: I get up at 7 o’clock. I wash my face and have breakfast. I brush my teeth and comb my hair. I get dressed. I leave home at 8 o’clock. We start school at 8: 30. chool.
In the afternoon: I have lunch at 12: 30. We start the fifth lesson at 01: 30. We finish school at 3 o’clock. I go home and get changed.
In the evening: I do homework and study my lessons. I watch TV. We have dinner at 6:30.
At night: I read a book for half an hour. I brush my teeth and go to bed.
What did you do yesterday? (Simple Past Tense)

Yesterday morning: I got up at 7 o’clock. I washed my face and had breakfast. I brushed my teeth and combed my hair. I got dressed. I left home at 8 o’clock. We started school at 8: 30.
Yesterday afternoon: I had lunch at 12:30. We started the fifth lesson at 01: 30. We finished school at 3 o’clock. I went home and got changed.
Yesterday evening: I did my homework and studied my lessons. I watched TV. We had dinner at 6:30.
Last night: I read a book for half an hour. I brushed my teeth and went to bed.
Regular verbs

Present:

PAST FORM OF REGULAR VERBS
Spelling of –ed

a) verbs that end in –e takes –d
like – liked, live – lived, hope – hoped, date – dated, injure – injured
b) Verbs that end in a vowel and a consonant takes –ed but the consonant is doubled.
Stop – stopped, rob – robbed, beg – begged
Play – played, snow – snowed
Rain – rained, dream – dreamed, listen – listened, offer – offered, open – opened
*prefer – preferred, control – controlled, travel – travelled
c) Verbs that end in two consonant takes – ed
Start – started, watch – watched, ask – asked, add- added – demand- demanded 
d) Verbs that end in a consonant and –y take –ed but –y changes to –i
Study – studied, try – tried, cry – cried, fry – fried, reply – replied

It snowed in Erzurum yesterday but it didn’t snow in Kastamonu.

Pamela came to the party last night but Emma didn’t come.

I mended Ali’s bike but I didn’t mend Hasan’s bike. 

Kate bought her son a toycar but she didn’t buy her daughter anything.

Note: If you ask about the doer of the action (subject), don’t use the auxiliary verb “did”. In this case, the verb is in the past form.
