How do I know which Bible is right?
There are many versions of the Bible, New International Version (NIV), New Revised Standard Version (NRSV), Contemporary English Version (CEV), Kings James Version (KJV), just to name a few. The Bible, being the best selling book in history, ever, has been printed in many different versions because there are many different people. Which version is right for you is up to you to decide. I would personally recomend the NIV translation. To help you in this decision, I have included a sample passage from different versions. John 3:16 New International Version (NIV) "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life." King James Version (KJV) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believith in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Contemporary English Version (CEV) God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone that has faith in him will have eternal life and never really die. New English Translation (NET) For this is the way God loved the world: He gave is one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. American Standard Version (ASV) For God so loved the world he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believith on him should not perish, but have eternal life Amplified Bible (AB) For God so greatly loved and deeply prized the world the He [even] gave up His only begotten Son, so whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. |
