As if in compensation, Schaaf has devised a frantically busy staging, sometimes witty and clever, sometimes brilliantly apt ...Figaro’s entrance on a bright red Vespa is expertly timed and has the right kind of theatrical flair that suits the character. On the other hand, the finale of act one ...the principals all ...singing, but ...most of the audience was captivated in watching the men’s chorus dismantle and strip the Vespa down to its bare chassis./ Review
Figaro shaving a customer on his red Vespa, just after his arrival.
A two-story house, all in white, ... rotating to let us see into the various rooms, ... Figaro arrives on a shiny red Vespa, his barber kit in a wicker basket ...singing his entrance aria "Largo al factotum" while shaving the beard of his passenger, who emerges as a model-pretty young woman in a green cocktail dress. /Review
Although this Barber set is modern, it is a variation on Alfred Siercke’s stacked house set of 1963/ Bloomfield SF Opera 1922-1978.
Fiorello/ Sergeant sung by Eugene Brancoveanu - baritone
Past SFO Lineup.
The least controversial San Francisco Opera new production of the Pamela Rosenberg era, it is the Godzilla of all "Barber" productions, enormous in its physical size.  It was a late replacement for a scheduled new production of "Lucia di Lammermoor", which apparently has been scrapped./ Opera Warhorse
